“I had been able to practice a lot with him when he was in the top and for me was a great help,” Nadal said.
“And for me to have him now — on the bench supporting me and helping me with Toni (Nadal), with Francis (Roig), the rest of the team — is something that made me feel happy, so just happy for that and just excited about this and 2017.”
“I have been practising quite a lot,” Nadal said.
“I practice even a little bit more (than normal), I think. I was enough healthy to practice the way I wanted to practice, so that’s important for me.
“I was able to work on a lot of things in Majorca and I’m happy to be back. Today was a good first-round for me.”
