Rafa Nadal and Marc López made their debut in the Spanish Championships that is taking place this week in the academy of the Majorcan champion, in Manacor. The Olympic champions, who only compete in the doubles tournament, prevailed over Carlos Taberner and Bernabé Zapata 6-2, 6-0.
Nadal has extended his winning streak in this modality. In 2016 he has only lost two matches, both in the first round, in Doha and Indian Wells, with Fernando Verdasco. More than nine months ago was his last defeat. During this period, he has won the gold medal at the Olympic Games next to Lopez, his partner this week, and the title at the Beijing tournament next to Pablo Carreño.
The Olympic champions, who continue to receive tributes in the last weeks of the year, are already in the semifinals of the Spanish Championships, a competition that they have never won. Nadal also has not been able to attain the title in singles, in which he reached the final in 2003 falling to Feliciano López.
