Rafael Nadal at the 6th edition of the Congress 'Lo Que De Verdad Importa' (What Really Matters) in Palma de Mallorca, 07 April 2016
Rafael Nadal said that he exerts "daily effort" to overcome the "anxiety" that affected his results in 2015, stressing that he is preparing with a great deal of enthusiasm for this year's season in clay courts, which begins in Monte Carlo.
During the presentation of the 6th edition of the "What really matters" Majorca congress of which Nadal is the honorary president, the Spaniard said "Last year I was competing against myself and this year I am competing against rivals." (EFE)

"It's a very special meeting. It's made many people see the world differently from the way they used to. E.g., last year when I had anxiety, I was going on court & was telling myself: in the end, what's the problem if you make a mess? It's just a tennis match, win or lose tomorrow you're traveling to another place. Life's given & is still giving you a lot & you're happy this way."
"What gives you confidence is victories, nothing else does. Winning gives you confidence, the rest simply helps. All the work & practice to be ready give you more options to win, but what truly gives you confidence is winning and whoever says otherwise is fooling you. The reality is that winning is what makes you go on winning."
"What I know is that I feel better, as a person. I mean, I feel good. I go to practice or to compete and I'm happy. I have no anxiety while I'm playing. I may lose, but I don't have the problems I had last year. I can compete better or worse. Last year I was competing against myself, this year I'm competing against the opponents. There have been opponents who have performed better than me, there have been days where I've been better than them & I'm trying my best so that there are more days where I'm better than them."
Rafa on the Rafa Nadal Academy: "For us it's a very important project 'cause tennis is a field we know & we want to do things well. We want to set a reference worldwide and be a center that makes things rightly, both on court & off court, for all the youngsters who plan to come."
