PHOTOS/VIDEO: Rafael Nadal at the Charity Event at China Open 2017
Rafael Nadal was joined by Michael Chang and local celebrities for a charity event on the Brad Drewett court on Saturday evening. Nadal and friends were raising money for the Rafael Nadal Academy and the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation.
As well as Chang, Rafa was joined by former Chinese footballer Hao Haidong and local entrepreneur Zhang Jun. The latter donated 150,000 Yuan to the Foundation.
A group of local children were also invited to take part, and started proceedings by hitting with members of Rafa’s team. Nadal then joined in the fun, challenging some of the local youngsters to play points against him.
Much to the delight of the packed crowd, Rafa then played a game of football-tennis against local soccer legend Hao Haidong. Haidong holds the record for the most number of goals scored for the China national team. After showing off their silky skills, the Spaniard then challenged Haidong to a game of tennis.
All proceeds raised from the event will go towards buying rackets and other tennis equipment for children in need.
