“I did not watch the match; I was practising,” admitted Nadal, who has been hard at work in Stuttgart, making the transition from clay to grass court rather than dwelling much on his quarter-final loss against Novak Djokovic in Paris.

"But obviously Wawrinka is a player that if you're not able to let him play from the tough positions and if he's playing well, I think he's a player that hits the ball with more power on the tour.

"It's tough to stop him, it's tough to have the control of the match against him. I think Wawrinka is a player that can create winners from everywhere.

"When he's playing well, he's one of the best players in the world and he's dangerous for everybody."

About tournament:

“It’s not the time to think about it today. It’s time to think about practice,” said Nadal, who is competing at the first edition of the MercedesCup to be held on grass. “First time on grass is always hard. I’m going to try my best, practise as much as I can today and tomorrow and Wednesday for my first round match.”

“I played on the Centre Court yesterday and for a first-year event, the court is in great shape, so congrats to everyone for that,” said Nadal. “Now I get to play two weeks before Wimbledon for the first time, so I hope that helps.”

About his goals:

"Novak had been better than me and I have to work hard to improve my level of tennis, my level of intensity on court and if that happens I'm confident I can be back and compete at the highest level."

“I want to win as many matches as possible,” he insisted.
“I don’t need to deal with (the loss to Djokovic) anymore. It’s in the past. I just have to improve my level of tennis, my intensity on the court. If I can do that, then I am confident I can get back to the highest level.”

"Первый раз на траве всегда тяжело. Я собираюсь стараться изо всех сил, практиковать столько, сколько возможно сегодня и завтра, и в среду быть готовым для первого матча".

"Я играл на центральном корте вчера и для первого года, корт находится в отличном состоянии, поэтому поздравляю всех с этим", сказал Надаль. "Теперь я, впервые, могу играть две недели до Уимблдона, так что я надеюсь, это мне поможет."

О своих целях:

"Когда Ваш противник лучше, чем Вы, Вы должны признать это. Новак был лучше, чем я, и я должен упорно работать, чтобы улучшить мой уровень тенниса, мой уровень интенсивности на корте и если это произойдёт, я уверен, что могу вернуться и конкурировать на высшем уровне".

"Я хочу выиграть столько матчей, сколько возможно," настаивал он
"Мне больше не нужно думать об этом (проигрыш Джоковичу). Это в прошлом. Мне просто нужно улучшить свой уровень тенниса, интенсивность на площадке. Если я смогу сделать это, то я уверен, что я могу вернуться на самый высокий уровень ".
