Rafael Nadal, who had surgery on his appendix on 3rd November, has announced his comeback for 1st January 2015 at the Abu Dhabi exhibition tournament. "It's been two weeks since I had surgery on my appendix and I still have occasional pain. I'll play in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of January and then I'll play in my first competitive tournament, from 3rd to 10th January in Doha, Qatar", he said at a Banco Sabadell event.
These are tournaments that Nadal will take part in as ATP world number three after an injury-plagued season. "Being world number one is a question of motivation. Last year I was thrilled to be world number one, but I wasn't any happier than I was when I was number two or three. What makes me happy is stepping out on court and knowing that I can leave with a trophy, if it also sees me reclaim the number one spot, then all the better", he explained.
