Rafael Nadal has traveled to London with the intention of contesting the last tournament of the year. The final decision about his participation in the Nitto ATP Finals will be taken after his training session at the O2 Arena.
"Rafa says that after retiring from Bercy, he's made the treatment for the knee and has hardly trained. He's made some work at the gym and started to hit the ball on court just a little. He hopes to be able to be fit and competitive to play in London.
Once he's there & has trained for a few days, they'll see how are things. Then it'll be the right time to evaluate the situations that can take place. He wants to go on playing at a good level, as has done for the whole season, and give himself chances of doing a good tournament.
Rafa admits that if there were different conditions, at a different tournament & time in the season, he may have taken a different decision. But we're talking about a big tournament like the ATP Finals, after the season he's had, he wants to play it & try to give himself chances.
Talking about the YE #1 Rafa says at his age it's obviously difficult to achieve. It wasn't expected, but got there going week by week, with good results & thanks to being quite healthy for the whole season, which meant being able to play more or less all the weeks he wanted to.
For Rafa, being #1 isn't the highlight of the season. A lot of great things have happened during the whole season, which has been fantastic from the start to now and has enjoyed it a lot. Now he wants to try to finish it in the best possible way."
