RAFAEL NADAL KING OF TENNIS

It’s the tennis sensation. Rafael Nadal will be the top star at the first MercedesCup on grass in Stuttgart from 6 to 14 June 2015. The 28-year old Spaniard announced his intention to play the 642,070 dollar ATP tournament at the TC Weissenhof club during the current Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo. At his last two appearances in the Killesberg district of Stuttgart in 2005 and 2007, the 14-time Grand Slam champion stormed to the title win – both times on red clay.

 “I am very happy to play again in the city of Stuttgart. Last time I played there it was a different event, on clay. This time it will be on grass and really looking to playing there. Great to be back playing soon in Germany,” said Nadal. In the time up to his appearance in Stuttgart, the Majorcan will be looking to add to his list of achievements. Nadal will therefore be going for his tenth French Open triumph at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris beginning on 24 May 2015. A win there would be just as historical as becoming the first player to claim the MercedesCup for a third time – and then twice on clay and once on grass.

“Right away at the first ever MercedesCup on grass, I’m delighted that Rafael Nadal, a megastar from the ‘Big Four’ and one of the greatest players of all time, will be playing the event. I’d like to say a special thank-you to his coach and uncle Toni Nadal who last year conducted ‘The Making of a Wimbledon Champion’ project for up-and-coming youngsters on the new grass courts and who has informed ‘Rafa’ about the top playing conditions in Stuttgart. The positioning of the MercedesCup in the grass swing shows the dimensions the tournament can break into,” commented Tournament Director Edwin Weindorfer.

Alongside Rafael Nadal, the current US Open champion and world No. 10 Marin Cilic (CRO) and Feliciano Lopez (ESP/ATP rank 12) plus local hero Tommy Haas and Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) have all entered the grass premiere of the MercedesCup.

Я хотел бы сказать особенные слова благодарности его тренеру и дяде Тони Надалю, который в прошлом году провел проект ‘Создание Уимблдонского Чемпиона’  для молодежи, на новых травяных кортах и, который сообщил Рафе о хороших условиях игры в Штутгарте”, прокомментировал директор Турнира Эдвин Вейндорфер.
