Rafael Nadal will return to The Queen's Club to compete at the 2015 Aegon Championships.
We are delighted to announce 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal will return to the Aegon Championships in June.
The world No.3 has played at The Queen’s Club five times before, winning the title in 2008, and never failing to reach at least the quarter-final stage.
After each appearance the Spaniard, one of only two players in history to have won all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold singles medal, has gone on to reach the Wimbledon final.
The four-time Davis Cup winner is excited to return after a three-year absence.
Nadal said: “I always loved playing at The Queen’s Club and I am very happy that I will be back this year. It was a great experience for me to lift the trophy in 2008 because it is such an important and traditional tournament.
“To win Wimbledon a few weeks later was like a dream. Coming to the Aegon Championships helps with the adjustment from clay to grass because the grass courts at Queen’s are so good.
“It is also a tournament where the people are very nice - the organisers and of course the spectators who always make me feel very welcome in London.”
Nadal joins World No.4 Andy Murray, defending champion Grigor Dimitrov, current US Open title-holder Marin Cilic, 2014 Australian Open king Stan Wawrinka and four-time winner Lleyton Hewitt in a scintillating field.
Tournament Director Stephen Farrow said: “Rafa is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and he is universally popular, so this is fantastic news for the Aegon Championships and our spectators.
“We have stayed in contact with Rafa and his team over the years and we always hoped he would return one day. To be able to add his name to an already strong field is a thrill."
David Macmillan, Chief Marketing Officer at Aegon, added: “Rafael Nadal is a sporting legend who transcends tennis and it is wonderful news that he is coming back to The Queen’s Club to compete in the Aegon Championships.”
The tournament has been upgraded to an ATP World Tour 500 in 2015, with $1 million of additional prize money and an extra week between the French Open and the start of the tournament. The event singles draw has been reduced from 56 to 32 to ensure the top seeds will all play singles on either Monday or Tuesday.
