PHOTOS/VIDEO: Rafael Nadal started his preparation for Wimbledon on grass courts of Mallorca Open
Almost a year later, Rafa Nadal returned to step on the grass courts of the Mallorca Open to prepare Wimbledon, which will begin next July 2 in London. The Spaniard, World No. 2, practiced for the first time on Monday at the tournament facilities in Santa Ponsa accompanied by Carlos Moyà, one of his coaches, and Rafael Maymò, his physiotherapist.
On Court No. 5 of the Mallorca Open, and under the watchful eye of an excited crowd, with the presence of many children, Nadal began to make his adaptation to the grass just a week after building his historic eleventh Roland Garros title in Paris, beating Dominic Thiem in the final.
The Majorcan, who in 2017 already made his preparation on the grass courts of the women’s tournament that takes place in Santa Ponça, plans to practice during the whole week, so all the spectators who come to the Mallorca Open with their entry to follow the WTA competition will also see the practice sessions of the 17-time Grand Slam champion.
In the next few days, Nadal will continue to make the necessary adjustments to complete his adaptation to the surface, thinking about making a good run in Wimbledon, where he was champion in 2008 and 2010.
